FC Barcelona’s Joan Laporta spoke to the media at the first edition of the Fundació de Enric Masip Charity Tournament at Golf Club Sant Cugat. He spoke of the continuation of La Liga’s spending limits and the January transfer window
Barcelona continues its goal of constantly strengthening the squad, and when asked about the club’s chances of signing in the January transfer window, Laporta left the door open
“Now, we are in the 1:1 rule in terms of spending (we can spend everything they save/bring in), but in the summer we will go back to the 1:4 rule (we can only reinvest 25% of saving/fundraising), explained Laporta
“If we have to sign someone, it would be better to do it in the winter, but we have a very competitive squad: we are the club that contributes the most players to the World Cup (17). He’s showing good work and it’s clear evidence that Xavi is doing great
Laporta continued: “We do not plan to do anything in January unless unforeseen circumstances occur that we have to resolve. And that’s because we’ve already done our work in the summer with the ‘palancas’, which has given us a very competitive team. Satisfied with how the season is going, despite slipping into the Champions League
He also had words for LaLiga, commenting, “The league (rules) restrict us more and more. They don’t stop in their efforts to make it tougher and tougher. If they’d had this obsession with ‘fair play’ for a while go off, we wouldn’t be here right now. May flexibility prevail
